Luke 4 For the next few weeks we will look at some of the words of Jesus found in Luke. For today, we are going to look at what Jesus said about scripture he read from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. Jesus read, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” He then said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” We have been shown favor through Jesus. At some point in our lives, we have needed someone to share good news with us. At some point in our lives, we have needed someone to proclaim we are free. At some point in our lives, we have needed someone to proclaim our sight can be recovered. At some point in our lives, we have needed someone to set us free from oppression. At some point in our lives, we have needed someone to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Jesus is that someone. We can read his words and be reminded that he is our help. How has Jesus helped you this week? How have you shared what Jesus has done for you? How often is Jesus the first person you go to for help? Please read the following for next week: Luke 13

Mark 11 Today will be our last study in Mark looking at some of the words of Jesus. In verses twenty-four and twenty-five Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” This is an important teaching from Jesus about our attitude towards prayer. We should pray to the Father without doubting. We must check ourselves to see if what we are praying for is in line with the Father’s will. If it is not, then we should not expect the Father to provide what we prayed for. We also must check to see if we are holding a grudge against someone. If we are not forgiving others, then the Father will not forgive us. As we go forward, remember to forgive and to pray that the Father’s will may be done in your life. Next week, Lord willing, we will look at some of the words of Jesus found in the gospel of Luke. Please read the following for next week: Luke 4 Mark 10 Today we will continue our study on some of the words of Jesus found in Mark. Verses fourteen and fifteen are verses that we should hide in our hearts. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Jesus did not say the kingdom of God belongs to people that are the wisest. Jesus did not say the kingdom of God belongs to people that are the wealthiest. Jesus did not say the kingdom of God belongs to people that are the most popular. Jesus did not say the kingdom of God belongs to people that Jesus did not say the kingdom of God belongs to people that are the most religious. Jesus did say the kingdom belongs to people that are like little children. To enter into the kingdom of God, we must believe Jesus is who he says he is. We must believe he did for us what he said he would do. We must believe he will do for us what he said he will do. Next week, Lord willing, we will finish our study in Mark. Continue to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal things Jesus said that you need to hide in your heart. How would you describe your faith in general? Are you a person of faith? How would you describe your faith in Jesus? How has your faith been tested recently? Please read the following for next week: Mark 11 Mark 9 Today we will continue our study in Mark, looking at some of the things Jesus said. We may have read chapter nine in the past, but it is important to revisit and remember the things Jesus said. In verse twenty-two, a father of a boy suffering from an evil spirit told Jesus, “Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” Jesus replied, “What do you mean, ‘If I can’? Anything is possible if a person believes.” The boy was suffering from an evil spirit, but the father was suffering from unbelief. The father had enough belief in Jesus to bring his son to him, but once the disciples could not help his son, the father’s belief started to waver. How often have disciples of Jesus, followers of Jesus, or just random church goers not helped us we needed help and our belief in Jesus started to waver? After Jesus commanded the evil spirit to leave the boy and never enter him again, he told the disciples why they could not cast the evil spirit out when they asked. Jesus said, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer and fasting.” There will be times in our lives that will require us to pray and fast to obtain a positive outcome. Continue to pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit as we read different chapters and look at some of what Jesus said. The Holy Spirit will help us remember the things Jesus said that will help us and those we come into contact with throughout our lives. How much belief do you have in Jesus today? What are some things that have affected your belief in Jesus recently? How are your daily habits or routines affecting your belief in Jesus? Please read the following for next week: Mark 10 |
