For today’s lesson I will again highlight ten verses. The ten highlighted verses will come from chapters twenty-one through twenty-five. Take note that starting with chapter twenty-two verse seventeen and going through chapter twenty-four we shift from proverbs from King Solomon to sayings of the wise. Chapter twenty-five continues proverbs from King Solomon. Prayerfully consider which verses you should highlight and apply in your daily life. Also, consider how the sayings of the wise are similar to or different from the proverbs from King Solomon. 21:2 – “All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.” 21:30 – “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.” 22:4 – “Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.” 22:6 – “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” 23:17 – “Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord.” 23:18 – “There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” 24:10 – “If you falter in times of trouble, how small s your strength!” 24:26 – “An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.” 25:21 – “If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.” 25:22 – “In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.” What verses did you highlight from chapters twenty-one through twenty-five? How were the sayings of the wise like the proverbs from King Solomon? How were the sayings of the wise unlike the proverbs from King Solomon? Please read the following for next week: Proverbs 26-29

How do you get directions for the decisions you make in life? How do you make sure your spirit is not crushed? Please read the following for next week: Proverbs 21-25 For today’s lesson I will highlight ten verses from chapters eleven through fifteen, two verses from each chapter. Some verses may contrast two things or two outcomes or they may describe a positive or negative way to live. These may be verses you have highlighted or they may not be. Remember to pray about verses the Holy Spirit leads you to highlight. 11:2 – “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” 11:30 – “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.” 12:18 – “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” 12:25 – “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.” 13:11 – “Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.” 13:20 – “He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.” 14:14 – “The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways, and the good man rewarded for his.” 14:26 – “He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.” 15:16 – “Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.” 15:33 – “The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.” How many verses did you highlight in chapters elven through fifteen? How can you do the positive things you highlighted in these chapters day after day? What verses have helped you in the past or would have helped you if you followed them in the past? Please read the following for next week: Proverbs 16-20 Today we start the second section of the book of Proverbs. Chapters ten through twenty-two are proverbs of King Solomon. These proverbs are statements that contrast a good quality with a bad quality or something good to aspire to with something evil to avoid. There will be proverbs that repeat or themes that you will notice as we read. Some of the proverbs will deal with living with wisdom, some will deal with relationships with people, and others with living in a way that pleases God. Please remember to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you or reveal to you which proverbs are relevant to you now. Remember chapter three verses five and six, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” For the remainder of our study in Proverbs I will highlight a few verses. The first highlighted verse for today is chapter ten verse twelve, “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” In a world full of hatred, we need love. The only thing that can help resolve some of the conflicts we see going on right now is love. The second highlighted verse for today is chapter ten verse twenty-nine, “The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.” God is just. Because God is just, he will punish sin. Those of us that have been forgiven of our sins through Jesus Christ can rejoice because the way of the Lord is a refuge. We do not fear eternal punishment that is reserved for those that do evil. What do you like or find interesting about the book of Proverbs? How many verses did you already highlight from chapter ten? How many proverbs in chapter ten stood out to you? Please read the following for next week: Proverbs 11-15 |
