John 5 Today we continue our study of the words of Jesus Christ in the gospel of John. We are praying the Holy Spirit will reveal to us what words we need right now to help us and those we come into contact with daily. Jesus said in verse seventeen that, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” Are we working today? What are we doing that confirms we are a child of God? Jesus taught people to repent of their sins and healed them physically and spiritually. Jesus was concerned and showed compassion for people. He healed the man, that was an invalid, lying by the pool of his physical condition and he told him to stop sinning so something worse would not happen to him. Jesus said in verse twenty-four, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” This is an important message we must share with the people we interact with. They need to know that only faith in Jesus and his Father who sent him keeps a person from being condemned. Being born again of the Spirit allows a person to go from death to life. Being born again of the Spirit allows a person to go from being an enemy of God to a child of God. How does your daily work compare to the daily work of the Father? How concerned and compassionate are you towards others? How do you share the good news about Jesus to others? Please read the following for next week: John 6

John 3 This week we will begin our study on some of the words of Jesus found in the gospel of John. Remember to pray about the message the Holy Spirit wants you to take from the chapter we cover each week. In the first part of chapter three, Jesus told the Pharisee Nicodemus “no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” and “no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” Being born again is very important. Where we spend eternity is based on whether we are born again or not. Jesus said, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” Eternal life is available to everyone. Believing in Jesus is the way to become born again. How many conversations about Jesus have you had with someone this week? How many conversations with Jesus have you had this week? How do you describe the way for a person to become born again? Please read the following for next week: John 5 Luke 17 Today we will finish looking at some of the words of Jesus found in Luke. Remember to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you remember and apply the words of Jesus in your life. We are going to look at what Jesus said about the kingdom of God and the days of the Son of Man. The Pharisees asked Jesus about the kingdom of God and Jesus answered, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.” We must realize that once we become a disciple of Jesus and the Holy Spirit lives inside us, we are part of the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is filled with people that have been born again and adopted as a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ. The days of the Son of Man will be like the days of Noah and Lot. The majority of people lived their lives however they wanted in the days of Noah and Lot. The majority of people did not try and did not want to live their lives pleasing to God. They died in their sins. They were destroyed, while a few people were saved from God’s wrath. As members of the kingdom of God, we must live pleasing to God each day. God does not want anyone to perish because of sin. The death and resurrection of Jesus is proof of God’s love for us and desire for us to live and not die. Therefore, as the day of the Son of Man gets closer, we need to encourage people to repent of their sins, take up their cross and follow Jesus. Are you part of the kingdom of God? How do you represent the kingdom of God in your daily life? How is your daily life compared to the majority of people from the days of Noah and Lot? Please read the following for next week: John 3 Luke 14 We continue our study of the words of Jesus Christ this week in the gospel according to Luke. In verses twenty-five through thirty-three, Jesus talked about the cost of being his disciple. Following Jesus requires total commitment. We can not follow Jesus half-way. We must consider that Jesus knew what the cost would be for us to receive forgiveness of our sins and everlasting life. He paid that cost. Jesus in verse thirty-three said, “In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.” Total commitment does not mean you stop loving others. It does mean we choose obedience to Jesus as our main priority. We seek to please him in our daily lives so we also please God the Father. We seek to follow the example he set while he walked on the earth. Jesus loved people. Jesus did not let his love for people stop him or hinder him from being obedient to God the Father and putting him first. Some people hated Jesus. He still was obedient to God the Father and loved people. Some people misunderstood Jesus. He was still obedient to God the Father and loved people. Some people did not trust Jesus. He was still obedient to God the Father and loved people. Jesus knew the cost and paid the cost for us to be forgiven and have everlasting life. God the Father was pleased with Jesus. Have you ever counted the cost of following Jesus? How does following Jesus fit in your life right now? How are you carrying your cross and following Jesus right now?
