John 15 Today we will finish our study on the words of Jesus Christ in the gospel according to John. We are looking at some of the things Jesus said in chapter fifteen. In verse ten Jesus said, “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” We need to remember and share with others that loving Jesus is more than a feeling. Loving Jesus is more than attendance at worship services on Sundays or Bible studies on a specific day of the week. Loving Jesus may not be popular with the “right” people. To remain in the love of Jesus, we must obey what he commanded his disciples to do. Jesus clarified one of the things he commanded in verse twelve. Jesus said, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” Jesus showed his love for us when he laid his life down for us. He died so we could live. The love Jesus has for us and has showed us is sacrificial. Sacrificial love is the kind of love Jesus has commanded us to show each other. In verses eighteen through twenty-five, Jesus talked about the world hating his disciples. Jesus plainly said the world hated him first and will hate his disciples because his disciples do not belong to the world. We are called out of the world to follow Jesus. We live in the world, but we obey Jesus. How do you define love? How has Jesus shown you love this week? How have you shown others love this week? Next week will be a review of all we covered in the four gospels.
